About Sankranti festival

Sankranti, also known as Makar Sankranti, is a Hindu festival celebrated in India and Nepal. It is a harvest festival that marks the beginning of the sun’s northward journey (Uttarayan) and the end of the winter solstice. Sankranti usually falls on the 14th or 15th of January every year and is considered to be one of the most important festivals in India.

The festival is celebrated differently in different parts of the country. In some states, it is known as Pongal (Tamil Nadu), Lohri (Punjab), Bihu (Assam), and Uttarayan (Gujarat). However, the essence of the festival remains the same, which is the celebration of the harvest season and the start of a new cycle of life.

During Sankranti, people prepare special dishes like Pongal, Tilgul, and Laddu, and offer them to the gods. They also wear new clothes, decorate their houses, and fly kites. The festival is also an occasion for people to meet and greet their friends and relatives, and exchange sweets and gifts.

Overall, Sankranti is a festival of joy, happiness, and new beginnings, and it is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor across India.
