About dasara festival in Andhra Pradesh

Dasara is a one of the festival celebrated in Andhra Pradesh with great enthusiasm and excitement. The festival marks the victory of good over evil, and it is celebrated with various rituals and traditions.

One of the most important aspects of the festival in Andhra Pradesh is the ‘Dasara Navaratri’ celebrations. This is a nine-day-long festival that involves the worship of different forms of Goddess Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. Each day of the festival is dedicated to a specific form of the goddess, and people offer prayers and perform pujas to seek blessings.

On the tenth day, which is known as ‘Vijayadashami’, people celebrate the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana. In some parts of Andhra Pradesh, people perform ‘Ayudha Puja’ on this day, where they worship their tools and equipment, including vehicles, to seek blessings from Goddess Saraswati.

Another unique aspect of the Dasara celebrations in Andhra Pradesh is the ‘Bommalu Koluvu’, which is a tradition of arranging dolls and figurines of gods and goddesses in a colourful display. This display is usually set up in households, and people invite friends and family to admire the decorations.

In some parts of Andhra Pradesh, the festival is also celebrated as ‘Bathukamma Panduga’, which is similar to the celebrations in Telangana. Women dress up in colourful sarees and perform a special dance called ‘Bathukamma’ around a flower stack made of seasonal flowers.

Overall, the Dasara festival in Andhra Pradesh is a vibrant and colourful celebration that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the state. People take part in various rituals, offer prayers, exchange gifts and sweets, and enjoy the festive spirit with their loved ones.
